Poker Betting Patterns

If you are a Poker player and are serious about making money through Poker, you should know the betting patterns of the other players. Once you have a good grip on the betting patterns of your fellow players and play to your strength, rest assured that you can win some good money. For example if you are given pocket aces, you may want to go in for a raise or if you dealt with suited cards, you may want to do the same too.

On the other hand, if you are given an ace in the late position, you may want to raise a flop after you call the hand. All this is geared to maximize your earnings and minimize the pot risk.

Basic Patterns

There are a few patterns that are apparent when you are playing and these are bet, bet, call; call, call, raise; and raise, raise, raise.

Bet, Bet, Call

This pattern means that the player did not get what he was hoping for, whether it was a flush or a set. This means that they have to re-raise their hand. It also means that they have a strong hand that is unpaired like two face cards or an ace. When they re-raise with the river, it means that they have to fold, since their only hope of winning is through a raised hand .

Call, Call, Raise

This pattern means that the player has to play slow. The other players will feel that they have to follow him and end up raising their stacks and follow him to the river.

Raise, Raise, Raise

This is an extreme form of betting where a player has to be some kind of a maniac to try this out or else have an amazing hand. Here it is just raising on blinds hoping to raise the stakes and win the blind or try to generate some action at the table

Telling on You

This is a pattern that is found in both online as well as traditional casinos. It means that most of the games do not follow a pattern and player’s lapse into what is comfortable for them.

These are only some of the patterns of betting and you should try to use them to your advantage. You should also remember to use the betting patterns to misrepresent your hand and force people to call when they think that they have a good chance of winning.

If you see a player who is aggressive, then you should probably play slow so that you can force his hand and let your stack grow.

Using blocking bets is another good way of winning in an aggressive table. It will help you hide your draws when you hit and will also let you see the river without another bet.

You have to remember that you can’t bet the same amount when the blinds have gone up. This means more than learning and it takes some practice and experience. You can go in for decisive plays when the levels go up.

It is better to win small, rather than to lose big. This is an obvious answer to anyone. You should not allow to caller to take a free card so that it comes back to haunt you. You should also learn to play slow when the occasion suits. And betting on your hands is a good way to maximize your profits.
