Playing the Blinds in Poker

In case an initial situation raiser holding AK0 raises a good player’s big blind, it will be a natural course of events that everyone else will fold to a player who holds a poor hand. Now let’s assume that no one calls for a re-raise, and in this situation all the players are left with the option to either fold or call.

However, even good players often do not make any call on an early situation raiser with 98 in the blind because it is possible that the opponent may have AK0 or AQ0. In this case, any good player would first consider the range of hands the opponent may have, including the over-pairs.

On the other hand, there are other players for whom playing 980 in the big blind head-up against AK0 is better
than folding it.

What is, however, important to note is that triumphing at poker is not always about great payoffs or liking the hand you are dealt. In fact, over the long run winning at poker effectively means getting more money out of poker games than you began with. Based on this, you may allow any poker strategy that you fancy to operate in play and focus on putting more money into the pots that you believe you have chance of winning at and keep from putting money into poker pots those that feel you will lose. This is, in fact, considered to be a "solid payoff."
